What we grow

Two fields, side by side

Heirloom high-bush blueberries in one, thousands of flowers and herbs in the other. Everything here is grown without pesticides, picked by hand, and sold about as close to home as food and flowers can get.

Blueberry U‑Pick

Antioxidant rich and as close to wild as you can get at a u-pick. Our heirloom bushes are ten to fifteen years old and tall — no bending down, no sore backs. An Orcas Island activity the whole family will enjoy and remember.

About Tekla Farms

A taste of the sweeter side of farm life

Tekla Farms is a destination for families who want a taste of the sweeter aspects of farm life on an idyllic island. Locally owned and operated by Brian and Laura Torma, with the help of their kids and friends.

We purchased this parcel, known to locals as The Carlson 40, at the end of 2022. What started as fallow, logged timberland with junk cars, trash and rock-hard clay soil has turned into our own little slice of paradise.

What’s in a name?

Our farm name pays homage to Brian’s grandmother, Tekla, who homesteaded and farmed in Northern Minnesota after immigrating to the United States from Finland. Brian’s older brother continues to run the homestead to this day.

Come see us at 5320 Orcas Rd

We are so excited to welcome the community to our farm during u-pick season and for special events. A few things worth knowing before you turn up the drive.

Finding the farm

From Eastsound: take a left on Main Street by WaFed Bank towards Orcas Rd, as if headed south to the ferry landing. Stay on Orcas Rd for approximately five miles. The farm is on your right.

From the ferry landing: head north on Orcas Rd. We’re roughly three miles along, on your left. Watch for the horses on the left as you drive.

What to bring

Cold water, a hat and sun protection. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, though our pathways are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Bring your own container if you’re taking flowers home — the picking buckets stay with us.

Paying & practicalities

We take cash, check, Venmo and card. Washington state sales tax applies to all purchases. There is one porta-potty on site.
